myimmigrationstory.com

This week I wanted to find something different when it comes to immigration. All over the news they talk about the political side, but they don’t really dive into the personal stories that immigrates have to deal with every day. I came upon this website called myimmigrationstory.com and its all about different people sharing personal stories about how immigration affects them. For example, a 16 year old girl wrote that she lives in a population that is 96% white and that it forces her to act like they act. However, she is seem as different because of her skin color. She also hasn’t seen her dad since she was 8 when he was deported. Some others talk about bringing their kids over at a really young age because they wanted a better life to build for their family. I find stories like this important because the news puts them down so often or we fight for immigration so much that these stories really put in perspective on what and who we are fighting for.

Just Like Us

The theater program at San Diego state is coming out with a show at the end of September about the lives of immigrants and the issues they face. In the show are 4 teenage girls, 2 of them are documented and the other 2 are not. However, they are all friends and the 2 that are documented help the others go through challenges they face. The title “Just Like Us” is about how the 4 girls struggle to find their identity when the world around them constantly doesn’t accept them for who they are. The show dives deep into explaining how the immigration effects each individual and the society we live in. Not only does it state laws and facts, but it is known to be emotional and raw storytelling to open up people’s eyes and mind to how real immigration is. “Just Like Us” will start on Friday September 27th through Sunday October 6th.

Democrats want to offer health care

Democrats who are running want to have health coverage for undocumented immigrants which is big considering they don’t have access to healthcare now. However, Donald Trump has also made it harder for legal immigrants to get healthcare he gave the right for Medicaid to refuse immigrants from signing up. This means that emergency rooms are mostly used for the source of healthcare because by federal law they need to screen and stabilize all of their patients. This article talks about the percentage of people who are insured in 2017 and how they were covered. California has recently become the first state for Medicaid to open up to an undocumented low income residents under the age of 26. Since it cost a lot to ensure people when they get sick a lot of ERs are getting reimbursed by the federal government, specifically for the reason they are caring for undocumented and uninsured people.
