Just Like Us

The theater program at San Diego state is coming out with a show at the end of September about the lives of immigrants and the issues they face. In the show are 4 teenage girls, 2 of them are documented and the other 2 are not. However, they are all friends and the 2 that are documented help the others go through challenges they face. The title “Just Like Us” is about how the 4 girls struggle to find their identity when the world around them constantly doesn’t accept them for who they are. The show dives deep into explaining how the immigration effects each individual and the society we live in. Not only does it state laws and facts, but it is known to be emotional and raw storytelling to open up people’s eyes and mind to how real immigration is. “Just Like Us” will start on Friday September 27th through Sunday October 6th.

Democrats want to offer health care

Democrats who are running want to have health coverage for undocumented immigrants which is big considering they don’t have access to healthcare now. However, Donald Trump has also made it harder for legal immigrants to get healthcare he gave the right for Medicaid to refuse immigrants from signing up. This means that emergency rooms are mostly used for the source of healthcare because by federal law they need to screen and stabilize all of their patients. This article talks about the percentage of people who are insured in 2017 and how they were covered. California has recently become the first state for Medicaid to open up to an undocumented low income residents under the age of 26. Since it cost a lot to ensure people when they get sick a lot of ERs are getting reimbursed by the federal government, specifically for the reason they are caring for undocumented and uninsured people.

Maria Isabel Bueso

This article is about how Maria Isabel Bueso was born in Guatemala and when she was 7 years old, she came to the US via doctors note. She had a rare disease and they wanted her to be a part of a clinical trial. With the disease, the doctors concluded that she wouldn’t live past her adolescent years, but she continued to be a part of clinical trials and has continued her life as of age now of 24. She has been rewarded many awards due to her behalf of working with several medical studies.

Last week Bueso received a letter saying she has 33 days to go back home and leave the country. Last month US citizenships and Immigration services a “deferred action” program that allowed immigrants like Bueso to stay in the country to receive life staving medical treatment.

They don’t know what will happen to her, surely if she goes back, she would not survive. Her doctor states in the article “If you take it away, it will be a rapid return to her previous state. Death would be the outcome.”

There are so many people who have applied to this program and taking it away from them has cost so many lives.
